Videos and QR Codes in the Library

Updated: Oct 30, 2021

Video is a great way to promote things going on in your classroom and library. One of the wonderful ways to get instruction to your students, other than a screencast, is to create a video for them and posting it to YouTube. Many programs can be saved as video and uploaded onto the YouTube platform.

Here are a few examples of successfully done videos that are both useful and great for promoting the library:

Useful Video-- how to bookmark when doing research:

Video of Interest to Students-- New arrivals to the library!

Useful Video-- encouragement to sign up for and benefit from FAFSA:

Video of Interest to Students-- Wii like to party at the library!

Useful Video-- Online resources for Career:

Video of Interest to Students-- Overdue books, Skywalker style!

Animoto

Need a fun and easy way to make interesting videos for your classroom or library? Try Animoto! The account is free and is super easy to use. Here's one I made in about ten minutes to promote a book to my students:

This is "Throne of Glass" by Sarah J. Maas--a high fantasy series about a girl assassin. Both boys and girls can enjoy this action packed set of books.

"In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world."

QR Codes

Another great way to get the info to your students is through QR codes. You can create a QR code for anything from a Google Doc to a YouTube Video.

I made the QR code below using the QR Code Generator Extension on Google Chrome. Click Here to download the extension for yourself!

Have you used QR codes before? Do you use them for links to videos? Have you used them with parents?

Your Star Wars video made me laugh out loud! How did I miss that one when I was video hunting?? I also love your book trailer. I have never read anything in that series, but it sounds like a great one! I might be wrong, but it kind of reminds me of Hunger Games, which I loved reading. Thanks!

I loved that you included the link for the QR code creator Google Extension. That is a great way to immediately help teachers and students access resources when they see how it can be used.

Your book trailer was great! You found some really amazing images and the music was intense; very engaging.
