Learn YA Lit with Me (Ch.3)

The one where Ms. Shattuck learns "The Anatomy of a Book."

I'm taking a class on Young Adult literature this semester at SHSU and am required to blog about each chapter that I read, so I thought I'd create a series to share with my blog friends. Welcome to Chapter 3.

This chapter brought us to another blog post by Laura at Publimetry. If you are interested in the details of this breakdown of book anatomy, please click here to be redirected.

I enjoy a good breakdown into categories, and this anatomy discussion did not disappoint. The main three parts of a book are its front matter, body matter, and end matter.

As can be expected, the details on Publimetry explain the even further breakdown of each section of 'matter'--but I don't want to plagiarize Laura's hard work.

With that being said, I will take from her writing to expand on my knowledge of teaching books. I know that there are several parts of a book that students tend to ignore, forget about, or not even know exist. I truly enjoyed learning the names of different parts such as a 'colophon,' or a 'verso-page.' Want to know what they are? Visit Laura's article :)
