The one where Ms. Shattuck learns about "Sci-Fi and Fantasy."
I'm taking a class on Young Adult literature this semester at SHSU and am required to blog about each chapter that I read, so I thought I'd create a series to share with my blog friends. Welcome to Chapter 13.
Summary:
Science fiction falls within the fantasy category. According to this chapter, all science fiction is fantasy, but not all fantasy is science fiction. Sci-fi is a subgenre of Fantasy. Sci-fi and Fantasy stories include anything that doesn't fall under the physical reality of our time.
Criteria for evaluating Nonfiction includes:
What are the fantasy aspects of the story--is it believable?
What are the fantasy rules?
Does the author help readers suspend disbelief
Do the themes explore universal truths.
