It's So Amazing

Harris, R (1999). It's So Amazing. Candlewick Press.

Summary

This book was created as a fun, more comprehensible way for younger children to understand everything about the birds and the bees. Part comic, highly illustrated, this is a companion to It's Perfectly Normal and It's NOT the Stork! by the same author/illustrator team. It talks about everything from reproduction to birth in a manner that is meant to create conversations when it's time to have those conversations with a child.

A Teacher's Perspective

This book is great for parents who need help explaining the "awkward" questions to their children. Personally, I feel like this belongs in the public library more so than a school library, simply because of parental opinions and possible backlash. Granted, I also feel like if a school library had it, they should keep it separate from the books children check out, and offer it to parents as part of their 'reach out' program in case they are having issues talking to their kiddos about it.

I think it is very informative, the illustrations are helpful, and children will get an introduction to understanding what is ACTUALLY normal and 'exciting.'
