Smith, L. (2011). It's a Book. Roaring Brook.
Summary
In this surprising book, readers are greeted with a colorful word for a *donkey*, a monkey, and a mouse. The donkey, obsessed with his technology, is completely confused by the monkey's choice for reading. He cannot seem to grasp that it doesn't need wifi, charging, doesn't text or tweet or make noise. The monkey (and mouse) are exasperated by the donkey's attempts to understand that it is, in fact, a book.
A Teacher's Perspective
I wasn't really expecting that. This book is very sarcastic...blunt..to the point. It seems as though the author is poking a bit at those who choose to read electronically, or those obsessed with their technology, over physical books. To many, reading is reading. This book makes it seem as if the author loves books over technology, which is perfectly fine, but in order to be a child's picture book, it didn't necessarily need the colorful language. Is that what donkey's are called? Sure, but it's not necessary for a kids picture book.
